Every new student, staff employee, or faculty member is assigned an MSU NetID. The NetID determines the person's e-mail address. If a person is assigned a NetID of smith, his or her e-mail address will be smith@msu.edu.  Some members of the MSU community use college or departmental email services with addresses of the form smith@egr.msu.edu; however, the university encourages all members of the community to forward their main MSU mailbox if they use external mail services.
